Mumford & Sons Perform at Charity
Side Note: They don’t mention this in the article, but Winston Marshall’s dad, Paul Marshall, is also co-founder of this charity.
Absolute Return for Kids (ARK), the charity founded by hedge fund investor Arpad Busson, raised 14.5 million pounds ($23.4 million) in London last night, 2.7 million pounds less than last year, as the hedge fund industry struggles to pare losses due to the European sovereign debt crisis.
Bill Gates addressed the audience in a recorded video at the auction dinner, which was attended by guests including hedge fund managers Pierre Lagrange, founder of GLG Partners, and Ian Wace of Marshall Wace LLP and top model Eva Herzigova. British rock band Mumford & Sons and electronic music duo Pet Shop Boys performed at the Kensington Palace Gardens event, which Princess Beatrice of York also attended.
ARK founder Busson, 49, started EIM SA, a Nyon, Switzerland-based manager that invests in hedge funds.

Bridge School News interview Mumford & Sons!

From the Bridge School Benefit in October, Ben and Marcus are interviewed by the BSN! I’ve been waiting for this for ages, and it’s so lovely. I love these interviews because the kids ask such interesting questions and bring out the best sides of the artists. It’s so lovely to see M&S do one. This has made my night!
Devendra Banhart is interviewed too.

This is the greatest.

If you’re unsure what the Bridge School is all about, you can peruse the M&S Blog Bridge School Benefit Concert archived posts, and I also encourage you to research through their official website. Yet another incredibly worthwhile cause that Mumford & Sons wholeheartedly support.

Yesterday President Obama announced the extended deployment of U.S. Advisers in the LRA-affected areas:

“Today I can announce that our advisers will continue their efforts to bring this madman to justice and to save lives. It’s part of our regional strategy to end the scourge that is the LRA and help realize a future where no African child is stolen from their family and no girl is raped and no boy is turned into a child soldier.”

Anonymous asked: Is this the same place as the first time we have in dec 2011? Is this to help invisible children

It is the same.  It’s to help Invisible Children and Amnesty International, favored charities of Mumford & Sons.

To donate: www.crowdrise.com/thewaysideinn (Invisible Children) or www.crowdrise.com/thewaysideinnai (Amnesty International) or donating directly through those charities’ websites and forwarding the receipt to thewaysideinngroup@gmail.com.  Let me know if you have other questions.

jburneya asked: The website looks old with contributions from the sweatshirt giveaway last December is that the same place to donate

Hi!  You can donate at either www.crowdrise.com/thewaysideinn (Invisible Children) OR www.crowdrise.com/thewaysideinnai (Amnesty International) - I’ll pop in there and get rid of the old info.  Appreciate the heads up.

My life is rather harrowing at the moment, but I wanted to take a moment and thank our anonymous donor to the Amnesty International fundraiser via The Wayside Inn.

You are amazing.  Thank you.

The Wayside Inn’s New Giveaway

Well, I’ve been on something of a self-imposed hiatus over the last week/month/a while now, but Jennifer from Mumford and Sons Blog with the help of a few other tumblr compatriots (thank you so much to (jburneya and meetva2000) did something pretty awesome while at the Ryman Auditorium just a few days ago aside from seeing M & S rock out.  Something that I think warrants a little effort on my part.

She had Mr. Marcus Mumford of the ever-so wonderful Mumford & Sons sign a copy of Sigh No More Deluxe as pictured here.  She explained to him that this would be given to someone who is donating to the causes they support via The Wayside Inn, specifically Amnesty International and Invisible Children.  That Marcus is aware of our little project…well, you can imagine I was pretty…gobsmacked is a polite way of putting it.

How to Win This Autographed Copy of Sigh No More:

First, reblog! Then, donate.  To be good to our word, only donors are up for winning this but if you donate once and reblog multiple times, you increase your chances.

Option A: Donate to Invisible Children via the Wayside Inn
The band has performed for IC, their music has been used in IC videos, most recently in the phenomenon that is the Kony 2012 viral film.

Option B:  Donate to Amnesty International via The Wayside Inn
The band most recently took part in the Secret Policeman’s Ball to raise money for Amnesty International, an organization that works on human rights around the world.

(If crowdrise for whatever reason isn’t your thing, directly donating to these organizations and sending thewaysideinngroup@gmail.com your receipt will count.)

Whenever the combined total of the two fundraisers reaches $1000, we will select randomly a winner from the reblogs, selecting until we verify the winner is also a donor.  As always, we recommend learning about what both IC and AI do and how your donation will help further the cause of human rights.

I’m happy to answer any questions you may have! Send them to my ask! Please put this on your twitter, fb, etc.  Thanks again to Jennifer and all who have been such fantastic supporters and extra thanks to Marcus! Let’s see what we can do!
